Empty House

Where have they gone,
Why have they flown?
Do they think we’ll forget
Their incapacity shown?
Ring-Around-The-Podium,
The GOP at play.
Ignoring the public’s odium,
They’ll get more nothing done come Monday.

And they file in once more,
Because it’s Speaker voting season.
Will they ever make it to the floor,
Maybe someone normal can ease in.
Lock the gate and bar the door,
Time to get their legalese on.
And we hope they accidentally,
Commit an act of reason.

It’s time for nomination,
What’s the worst that can hap?
Settle for some abomination,
Insecure under its red cap?
Some frothy-mouthed automation
Sputtering the same useless pap.
Or can we hope for a cessation,
Get someone reasonable and call it a wrap? 

And they file in once more,
