Republic Retrospection
by Cliff Lake
Fading Fuhrer map selection, Minions try to slow defection. Old guard tries to skew detection, And bury unwise misdirection. Today’s gesture of deception: Kosplay Kommandant projection: The brave bullies need protection! Another day of infection. Is this how the Republic dies: With shocked silence and open eyes? Will you wave goodbye where the eagle flies? Is this how the Republic dies? And the marching boys once so proud, All are masked, aren’t seen out loud. Oath-breakers, life-takers in shroud, False immunity they’re endowed. Lady Justice scales corroded, The House minister that has toaded. Too long was this foreboded: The Lawless’ guns are now loaded. Is this how the Republic dies: With shocked silence and open eyes? Will you wave goodbye as the eagle flies? Is this how the Republic dies? Brutal boys disguising. Criminals comprising. Annexing devising, Watch the North Sea rising. Is this how the Republic dies: With shocked silence and open eyes? Will you wave goodbye when the eagle flies? Is this how the Republic dies? Failing Furor in dejection, Blocking all means of inspection. Any move is now deflection, Cannot withstand a dissection. Deny all signs of rejection: Absence of a self-reflection. Do not look for course correction, Just a gesture of deception. Is this how the Republic dies: With shocked silence and open eyes? Will you wave goodbye when the eagle flies? Is this how the Republic dies? Cliff Lake 1/19/2026 Copyright © Clifford Lake 2026

The repeating question "Is this how the Republic dies?" hits hard as a refrain. I really like how you structured this almost like a protest song, with the verses building on each other about deception and corruption. Back in college I was in a folk music group and we did alot of political stuff but nothing this direct. The imagery about masked marching boys and corroded justice scales is vivid, though honestly its pretty bleak without offering much hope.
